I have an external hard drive that connects via usb to the computer and I was wondering if there was any way/any device for purchase that could connect it to my television so that I could watch the movies/shows that are on it.
Thanks!

sorry, it wont work because your TV doesnt have the ability to read your hard drive, the items on the HD are stored as files that only a computer can read

You can watch tv shows on the computer screen by accessing the network web site.
I know you can hook up the computer to the tv as my son does it. But the only advice I can give you there is to check with the local computer store as to what is needed and then to gt the attachments. It could be one of those 3 prong (red, yellow and white) double ends or be the ends that look like USB plugs. But ask at computer stores as to how to do that and they should know. If you go to a store that has computers and TVS that might be a better bet.
Good luck to you.

You could upgrade your graphics card. I have a graphics card that has HDMI output. I hooked my computer up to my plasma and surf the web from the couch.
If you are networked and have xbox 360 you can use windows media center.
If you dont have any of the above, but you do have a HDTV, check to see if it has a VGA input (same connection you use to connect computer to monitor). Then hook your entire computer up to your tv and use it as a monitor. It wont be HD but it will work.

You can only do that if you have your computer hooked up to the TV then accesses the hard drive through your computer

Yes, you can buy what are called digital media receiver/extenders that connect to your TV and you stream content from your PC or a USB drive.
Check Linksys, HP (x280n), and of course the Xbox360 and Ps3 can do the job as well.
