it means that the dvd-r is not the right kind of disk to use with it. read the instructions and you'll find which one is the right one. If it's not dvd-r, then it's probably dvd+r though.

there are three kinds of dvd : DVD-R, DVD+R and DVD+-R
it seems your player does not support DVD-R
