I know this sounds stupid but the 120 minute mode on my old vhs recorded about 126 or 7 minutes. Now I want to dub them to dvd and wonder if I use the 120 minute speed if I will run out of room. Does anyone know?

you'll definitely run out of room if you use the SP-2 hr mode on a dvd recorder. There's a way around this..it's flexible recording. You can put as much time as you want on a disc..say 2 hrs and 15 minutes and the recorder automatically varies the data rate to fit the program on the disc at the highest quality possible. The problem with this idea is that as far as I know it's a feature only available on Panasonic DVD recorders. I haven't seen it offered on other brands. So, hopefully you've got a Panny...otherwise check your manual and see if FR-flexible is available.

This is not going to be a fun proces unless you can find larger space DVDs. Chances are that you will run out of space more often than not. These time limits, while not exact, are very close. Example, burning cd's...sometimes they give you a 60 minute limit, but you get 61 or 60 and half minutes on there, but you never get 66 or 67 minutes out of it.
