well, I have a scientific Atlanta DVR, I have alot of recordings on it that I would like to put onto a dvd. does anybody know how I can do that? I got a dvd recorder to TRY to record off of that but the recorder was a cyberhome. But it did nothing but freez up (and got horrible reviews on circuitcity.com and some good reviews. So it cost 88 dollars. so since it froze up I went back and traded it. Then THE NEXT ONE FREEZES UP. SO now I am going to take that one back. But the really really nice ones are like 100-300 dollars.

does anyone know a way to put the recordings onto a CD?

Definitely try another brand of DVD recorder. I bought a Cyberhome portable DVD player for $300 back when portables were really expensive and had lots of problems. Had to have it fixed under warranty because of audio problems. Then, after the warranty expired, the whole LCD display went dead.

With respect to burning onto DVD from your computer, the only DVR I'm aware of that has out-of-the-box transfer to PC capability is TiVo (you may be able to do this with other DVRs by hacking them). Tivo released its "Tivo to Go" feature last year, which allows you to transfer your recorded programs to a computer. I assume copyright protections would prevent further burning to DVD though. I haven't tried this feature because of the long (real-time or longer) transfer time.

I recommend buying a DVD recorder. Since the cyberhome does not work for you, try to buy another. If you can't find any locally, buy online:

The TOSHIBA DR4 DVD Recorder is $160 but is a more reliable brand.

If you want to record the show on the computer, you need the right hardware. ATI makes reliable cards. Check out the All-in-One Wonder.
