As far as DVRs go, which is the best to use with Mediacom cable if you just want to buy your own from Walmart?

Is the installation and use very complicated? Is a $99 dollar one good enough? Any brand recommendations.

Not getting one from the cable company should be very easy to use with basic cable but setting up digital cable will be a pain on your own box. Analog cable should be plug and play but to get digital stations you will need a compatible box with cable card or still have a basic tuner from the cable company that the DVR can slave with an IR blaster.

They are all the same. Walmart does not sell Tivo. Get it through the cable company.

You asked about the $99 Tivo, you DO realize that you have to pay $12 per month, right? Or $300 lifetime fee.
