Here is a good explanation

"DVR" Digital Video Recording" is a timer that is set for a specific title on a specific channel. "Pass" evaluates program listing and if the keyword is found on any channel or any description, that program will be recorded.

ie; "DVR" would be to record the series "House" on the OTA Channel 10 on each Tuesday evening from 8-9pm. This can also be setup to record all new episodes.

"Pass" would be to record any show where either the title or description has the keyword "House" in it. Many shows would be recorded, "House", "This Old House", Haunted House" and also any program that has the word "House" in the description.

A Quiche dish a big more family size dish, creme brulee dishes are smaller, more squat and either round, oval and I had square ones in a place I was a chef, not you could use them for individual quiches but there quit small, when I make mine I use 6 oz ramekins, if you do buy some when you make the creme brulee, put some newspaper in the bottom of the baking pan take the pan and dishes to the oven, set them on the rack and then pour the hot water in the pan, this does 2 things you do not spill both the water or custard mix and the paper keeps the dish off the bottom of the pan were they can cook to fast, once done cool completely and when serving let them sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes before putting the sugar on and caramelizing it, I like to serve them warm, other put them back in the frig, but this make the sugar ultra hard and you need a chisel to break it.

Timer is just that, a timer; a recording event described simply by time and channel. used when guide data may not be accurate or adequate for a Pass to work.

A Pass works by guide data, usually name, perhaps other parameters. IT may be able to record the program if it moves in the schedule , or even on other channels.
