Typical "DTV Customer Care Representative", doesn't even answer your question, but just reads a script. A script with limited information I might add. For example, the R22 is a standard definition DVR. It supports On Demand just fine. Sure, it can unlock to HD and is essentially an HR21, but those aren't the kind of details you get from those wonderful CSRs.

If your receiver supports it, just hit MENU. You will see a selection "On Demand."

If your receiver does not support it, call DIRECTV and discuss your upgrade options.

First of all, as far as I know, DOD (Directv on Demand) has always been a FREE service from directv.

Alright, So, Directv has just pushed through an update that DOD is now available to ALL HD-DVRs. You don't even have to be connected to the internet.

The fine print: If you are connected to a router via Ethernet cable to your receiver, you get more content faster. The reason why is that you have unlimited access to the internet through your broadband whereas Directv has limited bandwidth through the satellite.

What does this mean? If you do not have your receiver hooked up to the internet, you can still get DOD programing but it only downloads once the bandwidth is available. This could take up to 7 days to START downloading.

So, if DOD interests you, I would suggest connecting your receiver (the directv box) to you router via Ethernet cable. Just keep in mind that you have to have an HD-DVR to take advantage of it.

whoa.... You are working off a lot of wrong information.... >i still have comcast internet or do i have to wait until verizon comes and installs the internet< Internet is internet. It doesn't matter at all who your ISP is. You only need service from someone, not both of them. >how do i know if its connected or not< Look at the RJ-45 connection on the back of the receiver. There is a telephone jack back there as well as RJ-45. The RJ-45 is the wider of the two. Is there anything connected to it. If not, you aren't connected. You can also use the MENU button on the remote and go do a self test. MENU SETUP SYSTEM SETUP NETWORK TEST CONNECTION Directv installers do not normally do the On-Demand connection, or at least mine did not. But depending on your hardware, it can be as simple as connection a single cable to your router.
